Q12: College ideas for success

What did you do in your undergrad to set your success in your career?

I think I definitely pursued marketing internships that gave me hands-on experience. It's really important to show that you have worked somewhere or have some type of experience before you graduate.

And that doesn't mean unpaid internships. You also can't get paid for internships, and I would definitely take that route. Doing that is really important because sometimes people right out of college want you to have some skill you developed in an outside job, outside of the university. So, I think that's really important.

The other thing that I did was get involved on campus. I was a tutor and a TA, which helped me develop public speaking and communication skills. But I also did a lot of volunteer work with Changemaker at ASU.

Having those volunteer jobs not only up your resume but also helps you gain soft skills. And then I would say college is the time to step out of your comfort zone. Do something you would never do to gain confidence and different skills you don't usually get in class.

Just do it because, at the end of the day, college is a time to learn and make mistakes. And then when you come out to the real world, to a job in whatever industry you want to do, that will give you a little more confidence to step it up.
