What have you learned about this role that someone could have told you before you entered the industry?
I wish I had known more or learned more about how much emotional intelligence matters in this role. I had to learn a couple of things by making mistakes, or the hard way.
But I think really, the importance of, first and foremost, knowing yourself is key. Getting to a place where you know your values, who you are, the strengths you bring, but also your areas of growth and your limitations.
I would say that is key to doing this job well. Then, being able to support others in doing the same, being self-aware. And being able to manage the different emotions that other people will bring to the table.
Being able to name those and support a group of people with overcoming some of those things to make something happen or to reach a goal. Those are things that I wish I would have had more training on and would have known prior to becoming a school leader.
