What skills are most important for a job like yours?
The main skill relevant for this type of job is patience. This applies in two ways: patience with young people who are at different developmental stages and affected by the pandemic.
There's also a need for patience with adults, which I didn't entirely expect. After seven years in the classroom, I didn't realize I'd need a different kind of patience for working with adults.
This is definitely something I'd like others to know. Flexibility around unexpected issues is also important. Relationship building and familiarity with pedagogy and instructional practices that support diverse students are also key.
