Entry-Level Positions For Aspiring Teachers

Given a teacher shortage, entry-level opportunities abound for recent graduates, including "on the job training" programs and substitute teaching to explore different school settings and grade levels. A path into education, as illustrated by the Dean of Culture & Instruction, can also begin through tutoring, mentoring, or Americorps programs.

What entry-level positions are there in the field that an undergraduate college student might consider?

Can I ask a clarifying question?
I think that entry-level positions available to young adults after graduation from college are plentiful. As I mentioned, the teacher shortage is real.

So, if there's anyone out there that is slightly curious about teaching, I think there are several programs that will accept you to sort of train on the job. This is a good option if you're curious but not entirely sure.

You can substitute, and substituting is a great way to check out different kinds of schools, different grades, and different subjects to see if that's something that you would like. It allows you to drill down on which kind of subject or grade you would be interested in.

Lastly, the way that I started was actually through tutoring and mentoring with an Americorps program. I think that program is widely available to young college graduates still.
