How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
To be in hospitality in general, whether it's food service, housekeeping, or sales, you have to be passionate about travel. I am in front office operations, and this passion is essential.
You also have to be passionate about what it is you're doing and passionate about service. We are in service of the people who come under our care at the hotel, and our role is to make their experience great.
There's a little bit of selflessness involved, but mostly it's passion. Passion for making things amazing for other people. People who really love the experiential nature of travel and dining tend to thrive.
It's hard work with very long hours in operations, so you have to love it.
