What does a day in the life of a business owner look like?
It's very dynamic and changes a lot depending on the need. Over the last several years, we've been winning a lot of awards and recognition. This has been the fun, glamorous side of the business that I've been in recently.
Last year, we were flown out to the White House to be congratulated by the president and vice president, which was really a thrill and an honor to be a part of. We do things like that where we get public recognition, which is the fun part of it.
I love being back at the office, working with the team. We have an amazing culture and an amazing group of people that I'm surrounded by. On a typical day when I'm here at the office, I am meeting with our internal team, catching up on emails, and making all the phone calls that have built up while being on the road.
We have a very family-friendly workplace. I bring my dog to work; there are normally some other dogs running around here, and people's kids come in, which is really a joy. But when I'm not in the office, I'm also flying out to job sites. We are looking at projects all over the United States.
I just got back from Colorado, up near Vail. Over the winter was my first trip out there. It was the first time I got on a snowmobile for a job site visit to figure out where we'd be building, which was a really fun and novel experience.
On an average day, it's not too different from anyone else. I get up early; I have a young 3-year-old at home, so I'm taking care of family business in the morning. I try to get into the office by eight, sit down, and start my day, working through meetings and my to-do list.
