What skills are most important for a job like yours?
Here's the cleaned transcript:
Number one, for sure, is communication. Since we're the prime contractors, we need to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding the work that has to be done on a specific day.
Sometimes we could have five subcontractors on site in a single day. You have to make sure that one sub doesn't get in the way of another.
This includes communicating with the owner about any issues. You also need to communicate with your boss if you're not meeting budget and explain why.
Staying organized is also very important, especially during project closeout when delivering as-builts to the owner. You need to keep good notes and track what was done. This involves keeping logs of RFIs submitted and their answers, as well as submittals for different materials.
Planning is also a main component. We plan every day for what comes the next day and the next week. Having good notes on your schedule and what's happening a week from today is very important.
