What does a day in the life of a project engineer look like?

A typical day for me would start really early; I'd be on site at 7:00 AM. We do what is called a "take five," where we talk about any safety hazards for the day and what needs to be done by the end of the day.

I would also talk to the foreman to see if they need any materials from me, and I'd go to Home Depot to pick them up for the day. I usually do that for the first hour or so of any given day.

After that, I go back to the office. That's where I approve time cards from the previous day and input my invoices to ensure they get paid.

Then, I create activities for the following day or plan ahead for the next week. This helps me see if we need to order concrete, asphalt, or anything else, because you have to order ahead to get the time you want.

Overall, I communicate with subcontractors who will be on site that week, making sure they know what they're doing and that they are on site when needed. I coordinate with everybody to ensure the project runs smoothly for that week or day.
