What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I would say communication is absolutely essential, and that's how you talk to people. Follow-up is also paramount.
If you extend an offer to somebody, you need to consistently check in with them and guide them through the process. Otherwise, you'll most likely lose that person to another organization that does.
I think in any profession, how you talk to and treat people is the most important skillset. When I say communication, it's very broad.
It can also mean emotional intelligence. For example, if you have a difficult project, instead of complaining, look for solutions and be part of the solution. Don't just avoid accountability and blame external circumstances.
I like to reiterate that among our administrators or CEOs, ultimate accountability is key. If your building is short-staffed, you need to figure out how to address it or put together an action plan. There's no point in complaining about something if you don't intend to fix it.
