Favorite Parts of Being an Associate Professor at Mt. San Jacinto College

David, as an Associate Professor of Communication Studies, most enjoys the interaction with students and witnessing their success; for David, "there's nothing that makes [them] feel better" than when a student demonstrates understanding and can apply the course concepts to their life, closing the "disconnect between...theory and concepts" and practical application.

What do you enjoy most about being in your role?

What I enjoy most, and what I mentioned earlier, is being with students. I am the communication club advisor right now, and I just love interacting with them.

I like to watch them and I like to see them succeed. There's nothing that makes me feel better than when one of my students says, "I've got it. I understand it. Thank you, Professor Moss, for explaining it to me."

When they finally get it and are able to apply it in their lives, it's nice to see at the end of the semester them say, "Oh my gosh, this applies so much to my life, and I can use it."

I think that's probably one of the most important things. I like to see success from my students. I like to see that they've grasped the principles or concepts I'm sharing with them and that they're able to use it in their lives.

There can be a disconnect between the theory and concepts shared in the classroom and their real-world application. I think it's super important that professors are able to bridge that gap.
