Could you walk me through your career path? Please start with your experiences in college, and any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
Sure. When I was in school, I had a number of internships. Most of them focused on marketing and business development.
My last internship, right before I graduated, was with Intuit, a local San Diego employer. There, I did a market analysis for their direct marketing campaign. It was invaluable in teaching me about what big corporations look at regarding data.
After graduating, I took a job at a company called Arc Product Development Group in a project management and customer service role. It was 1995, and there weren't a lot of jobs available, so I wasn't able to secure a marketing role in San Diego at that time.
But Arc quickly realized I had marketing skills and promoted me to be their national marketing manager. I ran their marketing campaigns for six years.
After leaving Arc, I went to Hoist Fitness Systems as their marketing director. I managed both their consumer products, directly to customers, and their government relations and club business, which were more the commercial products. This enabled me to do both retail marketing and B2B marketing.
When I was at Hoist, we launched a new product line called Body Gear, which required a new law firm. I hired Fisher and Richardson to be our lawyers. As a result, Fisher and Richardson recruited me from Hoist, and I joined them as their marketing manager. I worked there for about three years.
My current employer recognized my skills and hired me to open all their California offices. I've been with them for almost 19 years, where I manage all of their regional marketing, branding, and business development.
