What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
Deciding where to put my energy to grow the business is a challenge. I have a couple of support people, but I create all the content and marketing for my business. So, every day, I have to decide the best way to grow and what will have the most impact.
I used to experience what's called "shiny object syndrome." I'd see something new and think, "Oh, I could do that." But I've learned to stay in my lane. This is why, when you start an online business, you really need to niche down.
My area is the bar and restaurant industry, specifically helping independent bars and restaurants. I've really niched down, focusing on going "narrow and deep" instead of "wide and shallow." When you try to do everything for everyone, the business doesn't work.
I used to think I had to be on every platform, like Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok, to get myself out there. But I was just spreading myself too thin. So, I finally decided, "Nope, I'm just going to focus on YouTube, and that's it."
Now, I focus on YouTube and emailing people, and I stay on that platform. I've grown because I went narrow and deep. My biggest struggle is figuring out what to work on, as I'm only one person and have so much to do. I need to determine what will have the most impact on my business.
