What Type Of Person Thrives In The Manufacturing Industry, According To A Product Marketing Manager At Bosch

Success in this industry requires a trifecta of skills: relentless pursuit of "business goals and performance goals," including strong organizational skills and a broad understanding of market dynamics, coupled with creativity and innovation; and excellent people skills, given the need to interact with diverse stakeholders from "retailers" to "call center agents." The changing regulatory landscape, such as the shift from gas to electric cooktops, further highlights the importance of staying informed and adaptable.

How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

When I think of someone who has thrived in this industry, the characteristics that have made them successful are, first of all, relentlessly pursuing business and performance goals. This can look like being extremely organized, detail-oriented, and having a good view from the top.

It's easy to get bogged down in the details of everyday work. However, someone in the industry needs to understand how all products relate to each other and the changing market dynamics to stay on top of trends.

Especially right now, there are many legislative changes affecting manufacturing in the U.S. and products sold here. We are seeing a big push away from gas cooktops to electric, with new home building regulations around energy requirements. These are things we have to track and build into our products.

I would also say someone who enjoys innovation and is a little bit creative. Finally, I think you have to have really good people skills. You work with many different people who interact with this product, from technicians and call center agents to internal salespeople and customers. You need to be able to speak and interact with a lot of different people and have strong communication skills.
