What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
My role's responsibilities vary quite a bit. As most founders will tell you, it's whatever is needed to move the business forward.
Oxo provides advice primarily to startups, and sometimes to private equity-backed companies. We help them optimize their financial structure and business monitoring for greater efficiency and faster, more controlled growth.
As part of this, we offer fractional CFO services. We also assist companies in raising capital and engage in M&A transactions, usually smaller, strategic deals. These are often for software companies but can apply to any startup.
We also work with consumer packaged goods (CPG) and in the cannabis industry, among a few other areas. My main responsibilities currently are sales and marketing, and hiring and culture.
Initially, my focus was on day-to-day financial management, financial modeling, and helping create investor decks. While I still do some of that, I've shifted my focus to content marketing and outbound sales. I use several programs for cold emails and regularly review Crunchbase for funding news.
I look for companies that have recently raised funding or haven't raised in the last two years. I've developed personas for the groups I want to reach, focusing on driving sales forward. Culturally, I aim to identify individuals within my network who possess big company investment banking or private equity skillsets. I then help them apply these skills to startups where they can have a greater impact.
