What are your main responsibilities within your current role as Director of Communications and Outreach?
The main responsibilities of the Director of Communications and Outreach are broad and constant. More specifically, this role involves managing social media, our website, and internal communications. It also includes some event management, like for our annual gala.
Other duties include writing press releases and conducting outreach campaigns. This can involve organizing billboards, creating brochures, and developing one-pagers. Building media relationships is also key, ensuring they know who we are and what we do.
I also prepare our CEO for interviews with news media. When a story is being done, I make sure she has the information needed to represent us well, including drafting talking points.
One of the biggest aspects of this job is staying up-to-date on relevant policy and news. This includes anything related to domestic or sexual violence, or the nonprofit sector in general. Knowing the big picture allows me to communicate important information to staff and help plan how to increase our visibility.
