How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
People who thrive in this industry are doers. They set out with a plan and get things done.
They are also good at social interaction with customers. Most importantly, they plan something out, get it done, and are organized.
Of course, strong sales skills are also essential. Another key trait is having thick skin. Almost every day, you'll have a customer calling to curse you out.
This is something you'll deal with, especially if you can't provide a customer with something they need, like a box of syrup for their soda machine. You can't control that, unfortunately.
So, having thick skin and letting those situations roll off you is important. You need to de-escalate the situation with the customer and keep their business. I'd say these are the qualities that will help people succeed in this industry.
