What are your main responsibilities within your current role?

My job is pretty straightforward. I collect and analyze data, and I make sure that all of our telescopes are working during my shift. I actually work at night, and though some people think that's terrible, I love it. I chose to work at night.

The first and foremost responsibility is being awake. After that, it's just ensuring everything is running smoothly. A lot of things break all the time. We don't work at a very big and established company, so it's very put together with duct tape and super glue. We're mainly just making sure we're staying afloat.

Over time, my core responsibilities have changed. I used to be in charge of tracking certain objects in space and ensuring they were getting the data they needed. However, we've automated that fairly well. This has given me a lot of freedom to designate my own priorities and projects.

Right now, I just finished writing a manual for the team because we had literally zero written documentation. As we bring new people on board, it's nice to have something tangible rather than just a PowerPoint somewhere. It's great because as long as I'm doing my maintenance and analyst job, I have a lot of freedom to make things happen the way I see fit.
