What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

I think something I wish I'd known beforehand is that because this is so new, people are really interpreting the regulations and expectations of this industry as it's forming. You might go to one person who has one opinion and then to someone else with a completely different interpretation of what that methodology or science says.

Something that will be useful for people interested in this space is to start forming your own opinions. The best way to do that is by being informed on what climate science says, and what general rules and regulations look like in the world of corporate sustainability.

Also, understand local governmental legislation concerning any kind of sustainability disclosure or regulations. This isn't just within your own city, state, or country, but across the globe.

Globally, this is a movement many governments are being incredibly intentional about. Being informed on what those legislation mandates look like will be imperative to your success. This is true regardless of whether you're operating in a particular country, working with clients there, or working for a company based there.

Just being informed of where the landscape lands will be really critical.
