How would you describe people who typically thrive or progress in this industry?
Mm-hmm. People who thrive in this industry come from a myriad of backgrounds. Oftentimes, they tend to be a jack of all trades.
The world of ESG corporate sustainability is quite broad. You have some responsibility to have knowledge in every avenue of that space.
This is especially true if you're working in-house or on a small team. You might be the only person doing this work, which is often the case. People will come to you for advice on everything.
This includes how to work more efficiently, how to have more efficient electricity utilization, and how to reduce waste at the office. The role covers a pretty wide range.
While you don't have to manage all these things, you do need to be able to speak the language. You should be able to weigh in with your opinions or perspectives on that kind of work. Whether or not you have that experience going into it, you will develop it in the context of a job in that space.
