What is the biggest challenge in your role?

This role, and maybe more specifically, this industry, is pretty new. The world of corporate sustainability and corporate emissions disclosure is on the precipice of becoming mandated in February of 2025.

At this point in legislation, there isn't anything on the docket that requires companies to disclose or perform any sort of mandatory legislative disclosure on their climate plan or strategy or emissions. But starting next year, that will begin to change.

A big challenge for people in this industry is staying up to date and current on where legislative pieces will land and where they continue to evolve. For example, there was a federal case where it was possible the SEC would be ruling that companies would have to disclose their carbon emissions.

Obviously, with changes in government, that might not be the case anymore. It's really about staying up to date as there's constant change in legislation and in the way emissions are calculated and the regulatory landscape unfolds. That is a big challenge of this work.
