What skills are most important for a job like yours?
Communication is number one. It's key, both written and verbal. You have to be able to explain complex issues simply, but also be adaptable to your audience.
Sometimes, you need to discuss specific language, code, or technical details. Other times, you need to simplify it so people understand its importance and how they can get involved. I think that's the number one skill.
Subsets of this skill include analyzing policy and storytelling. Relationship building also comes with communication, as you need to learn how to persuade and connect with others about your work.
Managing multiple priorities under pressure is also very important. You might be working on one thing for one client and something completely different for another.
Now that I'm talking it out, being organized is also crucial because there's a lot going on. You have to manage it all and communicate effectively with everyone in different roles and spaces.
