What are your main responsibilities within your role?

My responsibilities vary from time to time. We follow the legislative process, which is based on the legislative calendar. Their calendar dictates what my role looks like.

From CEO, I have more administrative work, including client management, client recruitment, and maintaining relationships. This also involves maintaining my relationships with the legislature and stakeholders.

A lot of my role is leading advocacy and government relations for my clients. This includes tracking legislation, preparing advocacy materials, and meeting with officials. It also involves developing strategy and engagement.

I help my clients identify their policy goals. This can also mean drafting legislation or working with consultants to create legislation that best suits my clients.

Sometimes I help build coalitions or participate in meetings that foster relationship-building opportunities for my clients. Much of my other time is spent on administrative tasks, like preparing for bill hearings, writing letters of support, or developing talking points for my clients.

The larger picture of my role is translating complex policy into something attainable and digestible for people to understand and feel engaged in policy-making decisions. I want both my clients and the community to feel comfortable taking action on policy. Many of the clients I represent are community-oriented, and I aim to encourage public involvement.
