What A Lead Consultant At Scoot Education Wishes They Had Known Before Entering The Education Industry

Carmina wishes someone had emphasized the importance of identifying transferable skills early in one's career, particularly for educators considering transitioning out of the classroom, because skills such as "classroom management," "data collection," and "having parent conferences" can translate into valuable project management, data analysis, and client management abilities in other industries. Understanding these transferable skills sooner would have saved a lot of research time when entering this industry.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

When I think about this question, I consider the role I'm in. It's for many educators looking to transition out of the classroom.

I would say it's understanding all of your transferable skills from any career you've had. For me, my classroom management of kindergarten students supports me now with project management. My data collection and report cards have supported me with data analysis.

Lastly, having parent conferences helps with client management. I wish someone had told me in college to figure out what transferable skills from your career can move you to your next career. That took a lot of research and understanding of what I had done all those years before getting into this industry.
