What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might want to consider?

Depending on how you want to enter advertising, there are different roles. As an account person, there's an account coordinator role, or in some places, it's an assistant account executive.

These individuals will sometimes manage someone else's calendar. They often manage disclosing people with NDAs, tracking timelines, and setting up meetings. They're really like a fly on the wall, and then they'll start getting bits of projects handed off to them.

They'll grow and become account executives, and from account managers to account supervisors. There's a path, and it's a lot of climbing.

If you want to get into strategy, there are junior strategist roles. From a creative perspective, there are junior creative directors and junior art directors. There are also typically business development roles at an agency, pitching new business.

So you might have a business development coordinator role. There are a lot of entry-level opportunities because there's a lot of work to do.

For people coming out of undergrad interested in advertising or marketing in general, an advertising agency is a great place to start. You get exposure to, let's say, five different brands at a time. Then you can make connections and go work at one of those brands. Or, you have experience working on all types of projects, so you can work for really any brand.
