"Hey Cameron, could you walk me through your career path? Please start with your experiences in college and any internships or jobs you might have had prior to your current role. Specifically, think about how you landed that first job."

For sure. I was a student athlete at the University of Tennessee. They had a really cool program in partnership with Nike that asked student athletes to interview for an internship at their global headquarters in Oregon. I was lucky enough to be one of the student athletes selected from all the different Nike schools.

That was actually my first introduction to a corporation or a company. I had never had any other internships like that before. I was placed on Nike's campus in the global brand marketing team.

I fell in love with Nike's brand, their messaging, and their storytelling capabilities. I think that really kicked off my love for advertising, for brand, and for marketing.

From there, one of my mentors at Nike, who had worked at an ad agency in LA, invited me to intern with him the following summer after I graduated. From there, it was advertising agency, through connections working at the Rams, and through connections working at the advertising agency I'm at now.

I've found that the relationships you build, no matter how small, can open doors depending on where those people move forward. That's kind of how I got to where I am today.

In undergraduate, it was about putting myself out there and being okay with being told no by Nike, or taking another internship at a small sports agency. I just wanted to get experience that might set me up for my next opportunity. It was about taking the opportunities given and not being afraid to be told no, because ultimately, there's always another opportunity to pursue. I hope that answers your question.
