What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

I'm going to tell you. Especially for people of diverse backgrounds, you really want to tap into your network of affiliate bar associations and get connected to your community early on. This means you can't wait until you're in the legal field.

You should be connecting with your community in college and law school, and continuing to serve and be a part of it. Because at the end of the day, as minorities, we want to be connected because we need each other.

We need each other to advance, to mentor each other, to promote, and to retain people. If you have goals, such as reaching the bench or the judiciary, again, you're going to need support. Not only do you want to see it from a selfish point of view, you need that support, but you should also be outward-focused and trying to help lift all of us, because we all rise together.
