What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
One lesson, a mentor told me early on, was when I was talking about coworkers having different aspirations about wanting to grow themselves or grow within the company. I was discussing folks who weren't interested in that; they wanted to come in, do their jobs, and go home.
The mentor told me that if everyone was like me, the world would be a boring place. This illustrated the value of diversity in individuals, in where folks want to go in their careers, and in their experiences.
This was 25 years ago, when diversity wasn't as big an element as it is today, but it's always stuck with me. The value of organizations needing people with different backgrounds, aspirations, and experiences.
