How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I think I'll start by mentioning that accounting or audit isn't necessarily a glamorous industry. Most people accept what the job entails: hard work, long hours, and sometimes tedious tasks.
It needs people who are patient. You're dealing with so many different things simultaneously. You need to be able to see something through and be patient with the people you're interacting with, especially when they disagree with you, are hesitant to take your recommendations, or simply don't want to comply.
You need to be resilient. It's very hard work with long hours, particularly early in your career while you're learning. You have to realize that there's a purpose to it all. You're learning a lot right now and need to put in the hours; it's the price you pay to become a much better auditor.
News people who are very organized are also needed. Again, multitasking is key. There's so much coming at you that you need to keep track of what you're doing and when it needs to be done.
Reliable people are important. You don't want to be someone who's constantly micromanaged. People who can take on a role and run with it are valuable.
It's good to ask questions occasionally, but everyone is very busy. So, you want to be someone who can take initiative and learn things independently, allowing you to grow on your own. Meeting goals without a lot of micromanagement is ideal.
It's a job where you have to take initiative and run with things sometimes. Good communicators are also essential. You have to be able to communicate effectively, and if you have questions, don't waste time struggling.
