What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
People skills are a big part of my role. You have to really enjoy growing connections with people. I love getting to know the various representatives from my customers' teams.
Learning their backgrounds, what they bring to the table, and how they got to their current jobs is always super interesting. The number one piece of advice I learned throughout my job search, constantly switching careers until I found my place here, is that people love talking about themselves.
As someone in a client-facing role, you have to be invested in letting people talk about themselves and learning about them. That's something I really enjoy. I also enjoy working in the healthcare space and being part of a mission-driven organization where I can see real impact.
There are so many companies, especially in the startup and social impact spaces, that have big mission statements and visions. I implore anyone going into this space to do your research and ask people who work there to see the impact in the industry. Does this company believe in their mission wholeheartedly and are they doing work towards it? Or is this just a sticker mission statement that fuels a moneymaking journey?
If you're like me and need that mission to ground you, being in that latter category can be disheartening at times. But I really love that I wake up every day knowing that my work helps individuals connect to social services and have a more holistic experience going through health and social services.
