What skills are most important for a job like yours?

You have to be able to multitask. Being able to have organization is also important because you need to know exactly where you put your stuff and where everything is.

This way, if someone needs something ASAP, you can just pull it out and give it to them. You won't have to spend an extra 10 or 20 minutes looking for what you need.

From what I do, you also have to know computers. This includes knowing Microsoft Word programs like Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. You should also be able to type at least 45 words per minute.

I do take minutes, and you have to type quickly to catch all the important details in those meetings. With Kaiser, for some positions, you do have to know medical terminology. It's a little easier if you already know it.

I knew a bit of medical terminology when I started at Kaiser. Also, as a department secretary for Kaiser, you do need experience working in some type of medical field or have a medical background. This could be medical staffing or working with another hospital.

But as a department secretary, it's mostly admin work. So, you need customer service experience, like answering phones. You also need to be able to work on the computer and know your computer basics.
