Entry-level Positions for Aspiring Digital Marketing Associates at University of San Diego
For aspiring marketers, Antonio suggests freelancing to build a strong portfolio with demonstrable results like "views, followers, engagement," and recommends leveraging opportunities like a teaching assistant position with a marketing professor for free lectures and tuition benefits. In particular, Antonio suggests pitching to local business like coffee shops or hair stylists so that one can "become their in-house, um, like little social media, Instagram, uh, manager, and just start from there."

What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate or graduate student might consider?
I think one of the most effective entry-level positions for digital marketing or social media marketing is to freelance. If you're starting out or want to strengthen your resume, whether you're in school or thinking about going back, start collecting clients and building that roster.
Create your accounts and do your best to build a brand. Keep it in line and try to make the accounts pop. If you can provide actual numbers and metrics in terms of views, followers, and engagement, and then put that on your portfolio or resume, that changes the game.
It opens up so many doors. If you're in school, whether undergraduate or graduate, I highly recommend doing a teaching assistant position. I did one with a marketing professor. It was a lot of grading work, but I still got to hear a lecture for free.
This was great help because the school takes off a portion of your tuition for doing the program. Anyways, I do think the best entry-level position would be freelance work.
Or, pitch yourself to coffee shops or hair salons and become their in-house social media manager. Just start from there. That's how I started. I got one client, practiced a little, got another one, and that's kind of how you keep going.
