What do you enjoy most about being in your role?

The most enjoyable aspect of my role is that I genuinely feel like I'm helping people. I'm really doing something that adds material value. It's a measurable difference.

I can show someone what they used to pay for health insurance and then explain how I've put them on a better plan with richer policies, saving them money. I've also reduced the number of touchpoints and steps they need to take for the same activities. You can really see that people are genuinely grateful when you authentically help them.

My role allows me to do that. It's in a very non-traditional, unglamorous setting, like optimizing HR, which isn't the most exciting thing. However, I have a lot of agency and autonomy over my daily tasks.

I have a lot of ability and independence to go about my day, my week, and my calendar under my own authority. I'm an individual contributor waving the flag of my company. But my company doesn't dictate what I have to do, where I have to be, or what my job is.

They simply provide my financial budget, my email, my work laptop, and expect me to bring in revenue each month. I could be sitting in a park, at the beach, or at a conference. Agency and autonomy are what I like the most.

I also don't have to manage anyone. I dislike managing people and don't want to be involved in managing other human beings. I only want to manage myself.

Although I'm on a sales team and work for a large, $4 billion publically traded company, I operate like a franchise. I'm my own little business, representing my main company, but I largely do what I want. I'm an entrepreneur selling this publically traded company's tech stack. If you want to buy it, I'm the person to see. That's my favorite part about this role: being my own little business without any of the headaches.
