What skills are most important for a job like yours?
When we look to hire new people, we focus on three main characteristics: communication, ability, and initiative. These are broad qualities, and many are difficult to develop specifically.
This is deliberate. I believe anyone can learn to use an Excel spreadsheet and perform analysis on an apartment building. It's not that complicated, especially if you've attended college or business school.
Therefore, we look for people who are great communicators. Ultimately, it's a sales job. To be successful, agents must learn to meet new people in their target market.
They need to learn how to book meetings with these individuals, introduce them to our services, and get them interested in investing in real estate. Then, they must clearly explain what we do and how we can help them make money and generate a strong return.
In my experience, people who are good communicators and take the initiative to approach strangers are the ones who will do well here. I mention intelligence because you need to understand our services well enough to explain them to others. We teach the specifics.
Those are the main skills I look for. There isn't a specific certification or technical skill that you can't develop on the job if you possess those three core qualities.
