Transcript

What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?

One thing I did as an undergrad was get involved outside of academics. I played sports, which helped.

Even in professional development, I was the president of the Chicano Engineering Society. Later, I became president of the university's engineering society.

Both of those leadership roles helped me understand how to manage people, as I'd always been involved with team sports. But these specific opportunities also trained me on how to manage a budget.

When I first started my career, I was constantly asked if I had ever managed my own P&L. Because of those experiences, I could say yes, and that opened doors for me.
