What an Architect at CLIMATE Architecture + Development wishes they had known before entering the Architecture industry

Amy, a Landscape Design Architect at CLIMATE Architecture + Development, found the question challenging because "we love to learn," and the field is constantly evolving, particularly regarding climate and building practices. The American Institute of Architects' continuing education requirements reflect this continuous learning process, making it difficult to identify any single piece of prior knowledge that would have significantly altered their career path.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

That's a really hard one to answer because I feel like I've enjoyed learning as I go. I know lots of my colleagues, there's a very common theme among architects: we love to learn and keep learning.

We have something called learning credits. We're governed by a body called the American Institute of Architects, and they have an AE board. They make sure we have continuing education hours, things like that, so we're always learning.

I can't say that I wish I was taught anything specific before, because we're always trying to learn more as a society about the climate, building, and trying to keep water out. Things are always evolving and continuing.
