What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
As I alluded to in my earlier answer, in a role such as mine, I wear a lot of different hats. I have about five or six people who report to me, so there's the managerial component where I run that group of people.
This includes coaching and reviewing their technical work. There's also the administrative function, looking at timesheets, billings, and billable hours. That's the managerial function.
I also have my own clientele and book of business, which that staff of five or six helps support. I'm the point of contact for those clients, managing those relationships and ensuring they are happy with our services.
I also touch base with them to see how their businesses are going. Our bread and butter is closely held family businesses, typically high net worth ownership. My particular area is corporate income tax planning for them and their owners.
Finally, a large part of my role is winning new business. This involves leveraging my current client base for referrals and ensuring I stay top of mind. I also work with partnerships with lawyers, bankers, and others I went to school with, networking and chasing leads to grow organically.
Every year, we evaluate any sort of M&A activity. I joined the company through the acquisition of a sizable practice. I am always managing my practice and trying to manage capital application in terms of our resources.
