What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
My current role is primarily as a voice director for the video game industry, and sometimes animation as well. I also sometimes cast roles, though I'm doing less of that now as I focus more on voice direction.
My main responsibilities begin once a role has been cast. The actors for the characters in the video game then come into a sound studio. You've likely seen videos or pictures of actors behind glass in a vocal booth.
I'm on the other side of that booth, sitting with my clients and the sound engineers. My job is to direct and coach the actors to give their best performances for the game or production. Actors are usually given very little information about their roles.
Video games are notoriously secretive about their scripts and the game itself. So, most of the time, actors don't even know the real title of the game. We work with code names. I act as the conduit between what the client wants and the performance we're looking for from the actor. Essentially, I serve as the voice for the actor to get the best performance out of them.
