Who thrives in industry?

How would you describe people who typically thrive in the marketing and fashion industries? I think people who are really resourceful and have incredibly strong aesthetics do well. That's not to say everybody has a similar aesthetic, but being able to have a clear point of view is important.

Understanding what's visually appealing, what is more commercial versus something that's more brand, and how to weigh those two things in terms of business motivations is super important. In fashion, the idea of trend and being able to see and get ahead of it is crucial.

Being able to spot talent and people you can grow is also key. It's an incredibly competitive field, so being resourceful, curious, and willing to go places is essential. It doesn't require a lot of money; it just requires you to be out and about, aware, and reading a lot.

I encourage everyone who starts working for me to take their Friday afternoons to go to a gallery, a museum, or stores they're curious about. Meet with people who work at other companies and talk to them over coffee. You'll learn a ton from that.
