What do you enjoy the most about being an account manager?

I love that my role is all about talking to people and genuinely understanding their problems. Going through all the motions and the processes, whether they're frustrating at certain moments or not, is rewarding.

Going through the motions of actually closing a deal from start to finish is a very fulfilling feeling. There are people making incredible products in the world. Your job as an account manager, or a salesperson in general, is to go out there and understand the needs customers are facing.

You need a good technical and business understanding of their needs. Then, you work internally with engineers, product managers, and everyone building the product to figure out if the product can fit those identified needs. The process of making that marriage happen is something I love.

If you do it really well, it's a very financially rewarding role. I love that I'm compensated based on performance. My role is a hundred percent commission role; there's no base pay. In my first year, I had a salary, but after that, the more I sell, the more I make. The sky's the limit.

Frankly, I ended up making way more money than I had imagined making in my early 20s. So, being able to do what I love and make more money than I could have ever imagined is great. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
