What is one lesson you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
I would definitely say I always call it facilitating expertise. I've always been a high achiever, a go-getter. When I first started out, I remember just wanting to do all the work on any project. I thought that would make me the most valuable person on the team.
I actually had a boss who gave me advice. He said it's a lot more valuable if you can step into the team and take a leadership role. This is true even if it's amongst your peers, or even if it's amongst people at a higher level than you are.
The idea is to facilitate expertise because everyone brings something totally different to the team. So, instead of trying to do everything yourself, you're trying to pull out the value that other team members add. This ensures the overall team performance can be the best that it can be.
