Most Important Skills For A Systems Analyst In Higher Education
Alejandra believes that while the technical skills of a Systems Analyst can be learned by anyone, the most important skills are the soft skills; this is because "what I mainly do is I work with...the end users" and therefore great customer service skills are crucial. Attention to detail is also very important, especially with large projects, "to make sure that all of the end user requirements are met".

What skills are most important for a job like yours?
It's the soft skills that matter. Technical skills are something anyone can learn. Anyone can learn how to be a systems analyst, or how to use and navigate systems, or be a system administrator.
It doesn't take much to do those things; basically, anyone can do them. What you truly need are the soft skills. I mainly work with end users, who are my coworkers.
I'm constantly building relationships and reaching out to people, so you need great customer service skills. My work in retail as an undergrad is coming into play now because I'm definitely heavy on customer service.
The other essential skill is attention to detail. This is especially important with huge projects where we're implementing a brand-new system. We want to make sure all the end user requirements are met and that the system works and integrates with all the other systems.
We have a network of about five systems that are working harmoniously. We need to have very high attention to detail to ensure everything is working as it should.
