How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
Aside from being good communicators and really organized, which are essential, I think character traits inherent in the folks I work with include awareness. Being self-aware is imperative.
You need to know when you don't know something and also be aware of trends, whether they're social, email, or within your specific industry. For me, travel trends and all those things make you a strong marketer.
Sometimes it's exhausting, and I don't even want to be on social media personally because it's so much of my day to day. But this job requires you to be aware of what's going on in the world around you and aware of those trends; you're almost a trendsetter. So, that's one big component of success in this industry.
The second thing I would say is to be very resilient and bold. You have to take a leap of faith sometimes when pitching creative decisions. You have to own your ideas and understand why.
Being resilient is important when deadlines change, or a project gets pushed aside, or a pitch isn't as strong as you'd hoped. Knowing that trying those things is a learning process helps. Picking back up where you left off and not letting things get to you is what I mean by being resilient. I think those are really important.
