What skills are most important for a job like yours?
As a consultant, there are at least three important skills. The first is communication skills, because consultants usually do client-facing projects. This means consultants should communicate often with clients, explaining clearly about problems and how they solve them.
Communication skills are important. It's not only about verbal communication but also non-verbal. Everything related to communication is important because consultants usually present results periodically to the client, whether in informal written reports or direct presentations.
Another skill important for a consultant is teamwork. As consultants, we usually don't work alone. We are often assigned to projects with three to four other team members. Teamwork is really important because when solving client problems, we usually need discussions and brainstorming within the team.
The last skill I thought important is adaptability. Working in a consulting firm is not very predictable. Sometimes there are many sudden changes, and client expectations are always changing. To adapt to new situations very quickly is something a consultant should have to create quality results.
