What are some entry-level positions in education that an undergraduate college student might consider?

To truly do anything in education, I don't think you can move forward without having been in the classroom first. There are quite a few different ways you can go about this.

If being a full teacher sounds daunting from the get-go, take a deep breath and look at various instructional aide positions. A teacher's assistant for professionals would allow you to be in the school building and build relationships with students. This isn't to the degree where you're solely planning, grading, and dealing with data, but rather you're able to support.

You are the real heroes of education, especially with the rise in differentiated learning. You are key to assuring that all different types of learners are given the resources they need to access content.

It's also very easy to take it a step further. Many schools need individuals willing to be hallway monitors or bathroom monitors. This ensures order with little ones and prevents older students from spending their entire day in the bathroom. You could also be the person out on the playground.

This really gives you the opportunity to be right in the school building and understand the issues. From there, it can launch you into how you're most effective at changing the way we think about education.

If direct conflict with kids is still scary, there are many front office positions frequently needed in schools. These are especially good if you're organized and can communicate in a friendly manner. This is particularly true if you're bilingual or trilingual.

So many parents are unserved because they can't communicate properly with the front office or school administration. You could be the person who makes it less scary for a parent to step in and feel comfortable being fully involved in their child's education. There are so many options.
