Entry-Level Positions for Aspiring Account Managers at Wish

For undergraduate students aiming for account management or sales, Aaron suggests starting with Business Development Representative (BDR) or Sales Development Representative (SDR) roles, which involve "a lot more prospecting," then progressing to account management or business development management. Alternatively, depending on interests, entry-level positions in category analysis, site merchandising, or even coding-related roles like product management are also viable options within e-commerce.

What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?

Consider undergraduate or recent graduate level positions, especially if you're aiming for account management or sales in general. These roles often fall under sales or business development.

I would suggest looking into Business Development Representative (BDR) or Sales Development Representative (SDR) roles. These positions involve a lot of prospecting, which means finding potential clients or leads.

The goal is to get these leads to engage with the company or build a relationship. These two roles are good starting points.

As you progress, you can move into account management or an account executive role. The account executive position is more focused on selling and closing deals.

From there, you could also become a business development manager. This role involves expanding the business into new markets or regions. If you prefer this aspect, it's a good route to explore.

These are some of the roles I can think of. Based on my experience, I started in category management. At the time, it was presented as a new program for Jet and Walmart, though it no longer exists.

However, category analyst roles could be worth considering if you're interested in category management. Site merchandising specialist roles are also an option, particularly if you enjoy design and layout.

If you're interested in roles outside of account management, like coding-based positions, there are opportunities. If you've taken computer science classes or courses, you might consider roles like product manager, product analyst, or software developer.

These positions are definitely available in e-commerce if you have the interest and background. Ultimately, many roles depend on your interests.

If we focus specifically on sales, BDR and SDR roles are strong contenders. Category analyst positions are also solid options to consider.
